Bulgaria to invite chess master Bobby Fischer to competition

VIENNA — Bulgaria's chess federation said Monday it will invite former world chess champion Bobby Fischer to a chess competition in the country, reports from Sofia said.

The reports said the federation's representative will shortly hold talks with Fischer in Iceland. The chess legend arrived in Reykjavik from Japan on March 24. He had been detained for eight months in Japan over an alleged passport violation and had been fighting efforts to deport him to the United States, which is seeking his arrest. (Kyodo News)
